You by Austin Grossman

Takeaway: The novel is bookended by discussion of "The Ultimate Game," exploring the question of why we play games in the first place. Several times I thought of Sam Kellerman's quote about sports, which paraphrased, suggests that man created sports as a joke on God, because even though we struggle through life only to die in the end, we treat sports as life-or-death important to mock the seriousness of daily life.

Life cannot be compartmentalized. How we spend the hours we are allotted should be scored, however abstractly, and all of it counts.
